More Forbidden Psalm terrain - paved base

I'm a little bit gripped by Forbidden Psalm at the moment. I'm not sure what it is, it's a cute kind of skirmish game with a nice aesthetic and some cool scenarios and RPG type chatter. The idea of a warband of just five figures that adventure through a long list of scenarios to create a linear campaign is quite inviting. The characters develop on the way, gaining weapons and artifacts, wounds and injuries and possibly even dying. There's also a long list of potential foes, with weird stuff like wild pigs, corpse collectors, fecal ghouls and evil animal cultists. So I like it. I wanted to make some nice scenery and the little 24" square playing area is ideal for filling up with loads of cool stuff.

It also has a collaboration mode where your warbands join forces to defeat the monsters that lurk in each scenario. You can buff this up with various mods to make it harder if you fancy a challenge. In terms of minis, anything goes, it's fun to roll up a bunch of dudes and then hunt down a mini to match. Three legs, an eye patch, a pet anaconda and very long arms...

To start playig some games I got a small piece of 18mm mdf cut to use as a base. I screwed some plastic angle on the sides to be able to hold back drops on each side to create a nice framed play area. I used spray mount to fix some 3mm foam underlay on it and then drew on some paving slabs. It took bleeding ages. Once I'd drawn them all on I painted the lot with a pva, paint and filler mix. Then I added some different colurs by splatting paint on, wiping it off, using some ink, generally sloshing about till I had a paved board that I liked. This is the base for all of the town, village or castle scenarios. If you use a white polyfilla type substance and dilute it well it kinda runs in to the lower bits like a wash and you get a nice light mortar effect.

I also needed an outdoor environment, so I cut a 24" square piece of fake fur, took scissors to it and chopped it up a bit,  then I squidged in some paint and scrubbed it about until I had a nice varied grassy area. This lays on top of the paving to allow me to go outside.

Kill team 33 - Warp Coven (WD 469)

 Here I am trying to catch up on the bespoke teams. This is the Warp Coven, came out in the White Dwarf issue 469 and replaced the Compendium Thousands sons list. I'll probably not complete a full 20 man roster for this team, just stick with the basic cool options. I do have loads of tzaangors and a full box of marines, so it might happen one day. The people who know suggest that a good list is three sorcerers, the chain cannon and a bunch of tzaangors, so that's where I'm headed to start. I got given a box of marines for Christmas last year and I've used that to make my sorcerers. The box only comes with one, but with a few simple mods I made the three. I added some green stuff swirly bits, created a staff from a bit of brass rod, green stuff and some icon bits and then added a khopesh made from plasticard.  They are painted in two colours really, I sprayed them gold, added a wash of a mix od sepia and brown and then added the blue bits. Complete? Sludge Raiders

Recruited straight out of Wiltshire's dankest village, the Sludge raiders have devoted their foetid existence to the furtherance of chaos across the known and unknown universe. Travelling from kill zone to kill zone via the vagaries of the warp. Becoming more twisted and sodden with every jump. They arrive with the rains, torrential downpours of acid rain turn fields to mire. The stomp of hobnailed boots turns the mire into sludge populated by the maleavolence of the raiders. Your land is our murk, our boots crush your feeble resistance and out knives slice the puckered skin from your failed existence. These figures are based on 3D prints from Knucklebones miniatures. I have mirrored and chopped them up, added bits and bobs and sculpted a bit of anatomy here and there  The Ogryn bits were again 3d prints and I stuck a lump of clay on them to create a greatcoat. Forbidden Psalm - More buildings

I enjoyed building the houses for FP so I thought I'd make some more, there is an inn that you can visit between sc enarios to recover wounds and do some dodgy trades. It's called the Hogs head, which I discovered is some sort of Harry Potter reference. I wanted to make a nice inn, so I did. The cla ssic pub is on the corner, so that's what I based the building on, a corner pub. I also made a small shop which sells weapons; Forbes and Idden Arms. I made a small school type building and also a couple more generic houses. T hey look pretty neat on my paved area. The eagle eyed will notice I raised the pub sign later on to make it less likely to be walked in to.
